Tindari-Sicily

Halfway between Capo d’ Orlando and Milazzo, on the north coast, lies the ancient site of Tyndaris, in splendid position above the sea. The town was founded in 396 b.C. and was one of the last Greek settlements in Sicily, built and fortified to protect the Greek colons from the attacks of the Carthaginians. Afterward Tindari became a Roman province, before its destruction by the Arabs in the IX century.

The majority of ruins belong to the Roman age, like the workshops and houses, the huge basilica and a Roman house of the I century b.C.
The theatre embedded in a rock dominating the promontory of Milazzo is of Greek origins. In summer the theatre hosts performances of the classical theatre.
