The Cathedral of Palermo

Founded in 1185, the Cathedral is a perfect symbol of Norman art, though it has been built in various ages with inevitable readjustments. The original structure was strongly Arab Norman, with the three apses in the eastern end; decorated arches in relief and polychrome carvings. The towers and the façade with its gothic portal, as well as the porch with ogival arcades are all typical of this art style. In the 18th century two lateral wings were added, and a neoclassical dome. Inside  the style is solemn, with majestic and at the same time plain royal tombs, where the bodies of Federico II and Constance of Aragon, Henry VI and Ruggero II lie.

Access to the tombs is on payment (€ 1,00), as well as for the treasure and the crypt (€ 2,00). Otherwise you can purchase a cumulative ticket for both visits, at the cost of € 2,50. The Treasure consists of various props of civil and religious persons related to the Cathedral and the city. From the Treasure you access the crypt, with 23 tombs in marble, Roman and Greek sarcophaguses.
